Our mission to Concha del Oro and Rio Grande in the state of Zacatecas was a big succcess. In six days of hard work we saw over 15,000 people and most of them received prescription glasses, readers, or sunglasses. Our team did an outstanding job of delivering the gift of sight to those in need. Our thanks go out to all the Lions, DIF, the volunteers, the food preparers, transportation providers, and security personnel. This trip was successful because of a tremendous amout of cooperation and preparation by all parties involved. We certainly look forward to the opportunity to help the people in Zacatecas again in the future.

Mexico
Hello, or shall I say hola. Our team has been in mexico now for almost a week. We are in our second day of the second clinic in rio grande. It has been an amazing week to say the least! Our first clinic in concha del oro was a success. We stayed at a hostel in a very rural part of mexico. we made the best of it and had a lot of fun, or at least i did. The D.I.F. has been very kind to us and show thier appreciation with celebrations and gifts. On our off days we traveled to Zacatecas which was a ton of fun. The city was beautiful, and the people, food, and hotel were great. This is my first mission. the expierence will last a lifetime and has changed the way i look at things. The locals are so happy and sincerley thankful of what we are doing for them. the team is fantastic; everyone works hard and long to get the job done. Princess leona has taken great care of us. Making sure all are needs are met. I really enjoy the culture of mexico. I have so much more to say, but im in an internet cafe and running out of time. We have been so busy this is the first blog for this mission, hopefully we can get some different point of views from other team members before we leave. Until then adios......Todd king aka fer de mana
p.s. fer is a famous rock star here in mexico and everyone thinks i look like him!!

Pre-trip comments
Our Gift of Sight Mexico -Oct. 2008 team will be traveling to the state of Zacatecas, Mexico in 9 days to deliver eyecare and recycled eyeglasses to thousands of people in need. Our team is composed of 27 members from the USA, Canada, and Italy. We will travel to Mexico on 10/14 and return on 10/23. We hope to not only provide a much needed service, but we hope to make many new friends during the process. The days will be long, the work will be tiring, and the conditions will not be perfect, but our team and the local Lions and volunteers will enthusiastically provide the gift of sight to as many of those in need as possible. Our team will have a good mix of experienced members as well as those making their first Gift of Sight trip. Some of our team members will be traveling outside their home country for the first time. We will be a group of individuals when we first meet each other in the airport in Houston, but we will quickly become an efficient team as we begin our tasks. We did experience a last-minute change regarding our mission director. Unfortunately, David, who had done most of the pre-trip planning, will not be leading our team as he has been assigned to another mission in the near future. However, our team is very fortunate that Leona has stepped in to take on the job as our mission director. Our thanks to David for his hard work. Please check this blog for postings and photos during our trip. The team is excited and anxious to get started. Now if we could only figure out what to pack and what to leave at home.
